This program encompasses Netiya’s eight earth-based educational workshops, our experiential workdays, and lecture offerings at faith-based organizations as well as our community harvest events and holiday rituals.
Annual Food, Faith & Field Symposium
Netiya convenes LA’s food and faith communities to support more proactive land use at congregations; foster greater self-reliance; and grow community food sovereignty in LA. This annual event features the city’s best educators offering a keynote, plenaries, workshops, shared ritual, and networking space. In 2016, we convened and broke bread with influential lay leaders, clergy, gardeners, educators, and cooks from a diverse array of faith and spiritual communities in an exploration of stewardship through 30 speakers including keynotes, Aztec dancers, a harvest ritual, local food tastings, and a tour of a congregational orchard/garden/pantry model.
Seedlings Sprout! Parent & Me Urban Homesteading Workshop Series
Seedlings Sprout! is Netiya’s Parent & Me course including four classes that are designed to engage families with all aspects of gardening, cooking, and community needs. These aspects combine to meet the program’s primary goals of engaging families in learning and applying homesteading skills. This innovative program incorporates seed-to-table philosophies and empowers families to spend time together outside learning skills to grow and to eat healthy non-GMO food. Parents and students leave with an understanding of where food comes from, how to grow it, and why!
